The information below is from the 2023 Spring/Summer Rec Softball season.

2023 Recreational Softball - Program Information

2023 Spring/Summer Recreational Softball League

The DYA Recreational Softball League is open to Kindergarten-12th grade girls and consists of 4 divisions. Players must sign up to play with their grade level.

Middle school and high school students who are playing softball for their school team are eligible to play in our leagues. The Major & Senior leagues begin their regular seasons following the conclusion of the school softball season.


League & Grade Level (2022-2023 school year):
Coach Pitch/Tee-ball League: Kindergarten-2nd Grade
Minor League: 3rd & 4th Grade
Major League: 5th-8th Grade
Senior League: 9th-12th Grade



Coach Pitch/Tee-ball League:
Teams are scheduled for 8 preseason practices, 4 in-season practices, and 14 games. Preseason practices begin the week of April 3 and continue through May 4. Games are played on weeknights (Monday-Thursday) and Saturday afternoons or evenings beginning April 29. Games and practices are held primarily at Avery Park with occasional sessions at Emerald Fields, Scottish Corners Elementary, and Wyandot Elementary. The season is scheduled to end by June 24.

Minor League:
Teams are scheduled for 8 preseason practices, 4 in-season practices, 14 games, and a postseason tournament. Preseason practices begin the week of April 3 and continue through May 5. Games are played on weeknights (Monday-Thursday) and Saturday afternoons or evenings beginning April 29. Games and practices are held primarily at Avery Park with occasional sessions at Emerald Fields, Scottish Corners Elementary, and Wyandot Elementary. The regular season is scheduled to end on June 20 and the postseason tournament is scheduled for June 21-28.

Major League:
Teams are scheduled for 10 preseason practices, 4 in-season practices, 14 games, and a postseason tournament. Practices begin the week of April 10 and continue through May 11. Games are played on weeknights (Monday-Thursday) and Saturday afternoons or evenings beginning May 13. Games and practices are held primarily at Avery Park with occasional sessions at Emerald Fields, Scottish Corners Elementary, and Wyandot Elementary. The regular season is scheduled to end on June 22 and the postseason tournament is scheduled for June 24-28.

Senior League:
Teams are scheduled for 6 preseason practices, at least 12 games, and a postseason tournament. Practices begin the week of May 8 and continue through May 25. Games are played on weeknights (Monday-Thursday) and Saturday afternoons or evenings beginning May 30. Home games and practices are held at Avery Park. Away games are played in neighboring communities. The regular season is scheduled to end in early July and the postseason is scheduled for mid-July.

Practice Information:
Prior to the start of the regular season, teams are scheduled for two weeknight (Monday-Thursday) practices per week. All practices begin at 5:30 PM or 7:00 PM and are 90 minutes in length. Typically, teams practice Monday/Wednesday one week and Tuesday/Thursday the following week.

Game Start Time Information:
From May 6 through May 25, weeknight games begin at 6:15 PM and Saturday game start times are between 3:00 PM & 7:30 PM. After Memorial Day, weeknight games begin at various times in the evening (between 6:00 PM & 8:15 PM) and Saturday game start times are between 10:15 AM & 7:15 PM.

Memorial Day Weekend Break: No practices or games are scheduled from Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29.

Rainouts & Rescheduling: Rainouts will be rescheduled throughout the season. The expectation is that at least 12 games will be played.

League Fees:
Coach Pitch League fee is $95*, plus the cost of jerseys, if you need them.
Minor League fee is $110*, plus the cost of jerseys, if you need them.
Major League fee is $120*, plus the cost of jerseys, if you need them.
Senior League fee is $120*, plus the cost of jerseys, if you need them.
*an additional $20 was added to all fees on March 1

Jersey Information (NEW DESIGN FOR 2023):
All players are required to wear the DYA green (home) or gray (away) softball jersey for league play.

For 2023, the DYA Softball jerseys have a new design. The new jerseys are the same colors as prior years; however, the design is different. Click HERE to view the new design. This season, players have the option to wear either the old style or new style during games.

The cost is $40 to purchase the new pair of jerseys.

Equipment: Batting helmets, catcher's gear (chest protector, shin guards, and helmet), infielder face masks (for Minor, Major, and Senior Leagues) and softballs are provided by DYA. All players will receive a team visor. Some girls prefer to have their own batting helmet and infielder face mask.

Players are required to wear the DYA Softball green (home) or gray (away) game jersey (old or new) and must wear a glove in the field. Softball cleats (no metal cleats) are required for Minor, Major and Senior Leagues. Coach Pitch League participants may play in tennis shoes or cleats. Softball pants (gray, white, or black) are preferred so the girls are able to slide. DYA encourages the sharing of bats to those who may not have one. These items are not provided by DYA and are not included in the registration fee.

Coaches Needed: Dublin Youth Athletics is a volunteer organization of parents providing sports programs for kids. If you are able and willing to serve as the head or assistant coach of your child's team, please register online by clicking "Volunteer" on your profile page at DYA.com.

Preseason Coaches' Meetings:
Tee-Ball/Coach Pitch Softball: Sunday, March 26, 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM @ DYA Office
Softball Minors: Sunday, March 26, 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM @ DYA Office
Softball Majors: Sunday, April 2, 3:30 PM to 4:45 PM @ DYA Office
Softball Seniors: to be determined (early May)

Coaches Clinic:
The DYA Rec Softball Coaches Clinic will be held on Sunday, April 2 at 1:00 PM at Avery Park Diamond #2. Dublin High School softball coaches will be present to work with DYA coaches. Coaches are asked to bring their softball-playing daughter(s) to the clinic. All coaches are required to attend. The clinic is scheduled to last 60 to 75 minutes.

Sportsmanship/Rules Coaches Clinic:
The DYA Rec Softball Sportsmanship/Rules Coaches Clinic will be held on Sunday, April 23 at 5:00 PM at Avery Park Diamond #2. All coaches are required to attend. At this meeting there will be a rule book review and discussions on umpire/fan interactions.

Team Notification: Families will be notified of their team placement and roster a day or two following the preseason coaches' meetings.

Picture Day: The date of Picture Day (Kindergarten-8th Grade) is Saturday, May 13. The photographers kindly ask that you arrive 1 hour prior to your team's start time to take individual photos. Team photos will be taken after all individual photos are complete. Pictures take place near the field where your game that day is scheduled. Photographers will have extra order forms available on Picture Day. Picture Day services are provided by Midwest Sports.

At Avery Park South (diamonds #1-4), pictures are taken at multiple locations. Diamonds #1 & 2 use the photographer located along the first base line of diamond #1. Diamonds 3 & 4 use the photographer located between diamond #3 & #4.

At Emerald Fields, Scottish Corners Elementary, and Wyandot Elementary, pictures are taken near the ball diamonds.

Medals/Trophies:
2nd grade & younger league: Participation medals are awarded to all players at the end of the season.
3rd grade & older leagues: Trophies are awarded to players on all postseason tournament champion & runner-up teams.

Concessions/Snack Bar: The Avery Park concession stand will be open on all game nights. All proceeds from concession stand sales benefit the DYA Scholarship Fund. 2023 DYA Concessions Menu (PDF)

Softball Umpires: DYA Softball games are officiated by youth umpires.

Do you reside outside of DYA boundaries?:
This program is open to all families who reside within the boundaries of the Dublin City School District or within the City of Dublin. Out of boundary families may participate if there is space available in their child's league. Out of boundary families must pay a $100 out of boundary fee per child to play.

Coach Pitch/Tee-ball League Rules:
Participants play a combination of coach pitch softball and tee-ball.
When batting, girls will have the opportunity to hit balls thrown from their coach and also bat from a tee. Batters receive four pitches from the batter's coach. If the ball is not put into play, the batter hits one from a tee. Coach Pitch/Tee-ball League games are 1½ hours in length.

Youth Umpires (7th-12th graders) work 3rd grade and older DYA Recreational Softball League games.

DYA Recreational Softball aspires to be a program that provides a positive high-quality experience where all players:
- Learn and develop fundamental softball skills and tactics
- Gain an appreciation and knowledge of the game
- Enjoy playing and have fun at practices and games
- Develop comradery and good sportsmanship while feeling like an important part of the team, regardless of performance
- Understand and cultivate good sportsmanship
- Learn interpersonal, communication, behavioral, and leadership skills that have value beyond the playing field

We are committed to creating a positive culture in which coaches, parents, fans, umpires and players work together to achieve our mission.

Dublin Youth Athletics is an association of parent volunteers providing sports programs for kids. Our program relies on parents and community members to lead teams each season. All adults interested in coaching must undergo a background check. All coaches and league officials are volunteers. Practice plans and clinics are provided to all coaches. Please take time to thank them for making this program possible for your children.
