Girls Softball Program

Overview (Registration Is Now CLOSED)

Girls in Kindergarten – 12th grade are eligible to play in our youth softball program.

Program Objectives:

DYA Recreational Softball aspires to be a program that provides a positive high-quality experience where all players:

·       Learn and develop fundamental softball skills and tactics

·       Gain an appreciation and knowledge of the game

·       Enjoy playing and have fun at practices and games

·       Develop comradery and good sportsmanship while feeling like an important part of the team -regardless of performance

·       Understand and cultivate good sportsmanship 

·       Learn interpersonal, communication, behavioral, and leadership skills that have value beyond the playing field.

We are committed to creating a positive culture, in which coaches, parents, fans, officials and players work together to achieve our mission.

The Girls Youth Softball program offers a recreational program following ASA rules. 

All program coaches are volunteers, and our program relies on parents and community members to lead teams each season.  Practice plans and clinics are provided to all coaches.  All residents interested in coaching must undergo a background check.


DYA All-Star Information

DYA ALL-STAR GAME (Minor & Major Leagues)

**New This Year** the DYA Minor and Major Leagues will be participating in an All-Star Game and Skills Competition Day with the 10U and 12U Gahanna Junior League Sports Softball Programs. The event is currently scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2020 and is weather permitting. 

Try-outs for the Minor & Major All-Star teams will be held between May 16 and 22. Exact dates and times will be determined once our season games are scheduled and in the system. 

Each league’s All-Star team will practice 3 - 5 times between June 7-26. Practice schedules are TBD based on current participant’s team schedules. 

Please check back for more details. League coaches will also distribute information during the beginning of the season.

            Tournament (Play-offs): June 20-27 (Weather depending)

Sr League: **Games begin the week following Memorial Day and go through mid July". Senior league teams consist solely of Dublin players and all teams participate in the North Columbus Sports (NCS) High School softball league. NCS consists of teams from North Columbus, and Westerville. There will be 12 regular season league games, followed by a tournament. In 2019, Dublin had 2 senior teams in the NCS High School league. Clinic (Partnership with Mannino's)

Mannino’s Grand Slam offers GREATLY reduced clinics just for DYA Softball participants. These clinics will be a great opportunity for both beginning and experienced players to learn new skills and work on perfecting their fundamentals and mechanics.  Each girl will be able to take the skills learned here to practice, both with their team and at home.

Coaching Tools

Coaches are required to attend a league draft meeting and are strongly encouraged to attend a skills clinic prior to the first week of practices.

For the 2020 season, DYA Recreation Softball will hold a coaches clinic in partnership with Maninno's Grand Slam. Check back in January for full details. 


 

Equipment

 Players should have the following equipment:

·       Softball pants ( white, black, or gray). Please note; the league prefers the girls to wear softball pants so the girls are able to slide.

·       Softball glove

·       Socks

·       Softball bat:  We encourage sharing of bats to those who may not have one.

·       Softball cleats (no metal cleats). Required for Minor, Major, and Senior Leagues. Coach Pitch/Tee League participants may play in tennis shoes. 

·       Some girls/parents prefer to have their own batting helmet and infielder face mask which is at your discretion.

LEAGUE PROVIDES: Hats are provided with league fees. DYA Jerseys can be purchased when you register for the league. 

·       Batting helmets – 5 per team

·       Game balls

·       Practice balls

·       Catcher’s Gear

·       Infielder face mask – 2 per team (Major, Minors, Seniors)
