Travel Basketball

2022-2023 Travel Basketball Registration is OPEN.

***Travel Basketball Registration Information:***

To register for Travel Basketball, families must register for Rec Basketball.
There is a question on the registration form that asks, "Are you trying out for DYA Travel Basketball?" Answer "Yes" and complete the registration and you'll be registered for Travel Basketball tryouts.

If your child does make the travel team:
We will transfer the Rec Basketball fee and put it towards the Travel Basketball fee.

If your child does NOT make the travel team:
You can remain in the Rec Basketball League or request for a full refund. We do this because registration for Rec Basketball ends before Travel Basketball tryouts are complete. The child could get shutout if they wait to register after the outcome of travel basketball tryouts. This prevents them from being wait-listed.

2022-2023 Travel Basketball

2022-2023 Travel Basketball

The purpose of the DYA Travel Basketball Program is to further the development of basketball players in 4th-6th grade who demonstrate basketball skills and abilities above the typical recreational league player by providing them with practice opportunities and games in a more competitive setting.

All Travel Basketball players must be in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and reside within the limits of the Dublin City School District or within the City of Dublin to be eligible for league play and tournament participation.

Games are almost always scheduled on weekends. Home games are played on Sunday afternoons and early evenings primarily at Dublin City Schools middle school gymnasiums: Davis, Eversole Run, Grizzell, Karrer, and Sells. Away games are typically on Saturdays. Teams play 14 to 16 regular season games. Games begin in early December and continue through mid-February.

Practices are held on weeknights beginning at 6:30 PM or occasionally 8:00 PM and are 90 minutes in length. Practices are held at Dublin City Schools high school, middle school, and elementary school gymnasiums. Practices begin in early November.

Generally, there are no games or practices scheduled over Holiday Break.

All teams participate in at least three tournaments including the Dublin Holiday Tournament, the COBA (Central Ohio Basketball Association) Championship Tournament, plus a third tournament selected by each team.

Team Notification & Practice/Game Schedule:
Families will hear from their coach and receive the practice & game schedule a day or two following your age group's preseason coaches' meeting. See DYA.com for coaches' meeting dates.

Teammate/Coach Requests:
Teams in the 3rd grade & younger leagues are assigned by the league office and most teammate/coach requests are able to be granted.

Teams in the 4th grade & older leagues are not usually formed by the league office as players are drafted by the coaches at the preseason coaches' meeting and are not grouped together by the league office in any way. The only grouping that occurs is that the head coach's children and the assistant coach's children are automatically placed on the same team with their parents as coaches. All other players in the league are drafted by the coaches. Teammate requests on registration forms (which are not guaranteed) are printed on the draft lists that the coaches look at during the draft to draft their team's players, however, there are no draft rules that require coaches to grant teammate/coach requests. Typically, coaches are able to grant some requests, but there are usually some requests that are not able to be granted. There are no guarantees that teammate requests will be honored by the coaches at the preseason meeting. Our draft procedures state that players are not able to be traded or assigned to a different team once the player draft is complete.

Basketball Officials & Scorekeepers:
Games in the 3rd-6th Grade Boys Leagues & 3rd-5th Grade Girls Leagues are officiated by Youth Officials.
Games in the 7th-12th Grade Boys & 6th-12th Grade Girls Leagues are officiated by Adult Officials.

DYA employs Youth Scorekeepers to operate the scoreboard.

Sign-ups to become an official or scorekeeper take place from June-November.
