Team Notification & Practice/Game Schedule:
Families will hear from their coach and receive the practice & game schedule a day or two following your age group's preseason coaches' meeting. See DYA.com for coaches' meeting dates.

Teammate/Coach Requests:
Teams in the 3rd grade & younger leagues are assigned by the league office and most teammate/coach requests are able to be granted.

Teams in the 4th grade & older leagues are not usually formed by the league office as players are drafted by the coaches at the preseason coaches' meeting and are not grouped together by the league office in any way. The only grouping that occurs is that the head coach's children and the assistant coach's children are automatically placed on the same team with their parents as coaches. All other players in the league are drafted by the coaches. Teammate requests on registration forms (which are not guaranteed) are printed on the draft lists that the coaches look at during the draft to draft their team's players, however, there are no draft rules that require coaches to grant teammate/coach requests. Typically, coaches are able to grant some requests, but there are usually some requests that are not able to be granted. There are no guarantees that teammate requests will be honored by the coaches at the preseason meeting. Our draft procedures state that players are not able to be traded or assigned to a different team once the player draft is complete.

Basketball Officials & Scorekeepers:
Games in the 3rd-6th Grade Boys Leagues & 3rd-5th Grade Girls Leagues are officiated by Youth Officials.
Games in the 7th-12th Grade Boys & 6th-12th Grade Girls Leagues are officiated by Adult Officials.

DYA employs Youth Scorekeepers to operate the scoreboard.

Sign-ups to become an official or scorekeeper take place from June-November.
For more information about the DYA Youth Basketball Officials and Scorekeepers programs, or to become an official or scorekeeper, please visit this webpage: http://dya.com/Default.aspx?tabid=707115

2023 Tournament Information (6th-12th grade boys & 6th-8th grade girls):
The Opening Round of DYA Recreation League Basketball Tournaments are scheduled for following dates:
6th Grade Boys League - Saturday, February 18 (bracket set the week of February 5)
7th-12th Grade Boys Leagues - Saturday, February 18 or Saturday, February 25 (bracket set the week of February 5 or 12)
Middle School Girls League - Sunday, February 19 or Sunday, February 26 (bracket set the week of February 6 or 13)

All teams should plan to play in the Opening Round of the tournament. Teams will keep playing for 1-2 additional weeks after the Opening Round if they continue to win games in the tournament.

Travel Basketball Registration Information (grades 4-6 only):

To register for Travel Basketball, register for Rec Basketball. There is a question on the registration form that asks, "Are you trying out for DYA Travel Basketball?" Answer "Yes" and complete the registration and you'll be registered for Travel Basketball tryouts.

If your child does make the travel team:
We will transfer the Rec Basketball fee and put it towards the Travel Basketball fee.

If your child does NOT make the travel team:
You can remain in the Rec Basketball League or request for a full refund. We do this because registration for Rec Basketball ends before Travel Basketball tryouts are complete. The child could get shutout if they wait to register after the outcome of travel basketball tryouts. This prevents them from being wait-listed.
