2024-2025 Basketball - Registration

2024-25 Recreational Basketball


The DYA Recreational Basketball program is designed for 1st through 12th grade boys & girls and consists of 17 divisions. Kindergartners born on or before 8/1/2018 may participate in the 1st Grade division.

As DYA Basketball approaches 2,000 basketball participants annually, space may be limited. Sign-ups are on a first-come basis. Registration will close two weeks prior to the preseason coaches' meeting date. If we have enough coaches and gym space to expand the league, registration will reopen prior to the season start date.

If your child is trying out for their middle school or high school basketball team, please sign up early. If your child makes their school team, we will issue you a refund.

Introductory Leagues (1st & 2nd Grade) - DYA Rec Basketball Introductory Leagues are an introduction to skills, rules, and working as a team. Games are 3-on-3 with 1 coach for every 6 players; everyone plays. A DYA representative will be on site for coordination. Kindergartners born on or before 8/1/2018 may participate in the 1st Grade division.

1st-2nd Grade Boys & Girls Leagues: Teams are scheduled for 10 practices and games held back-to-back on Saturday mornings or afternoons beginning December 7. Practices/games are held at Dublin elementary school gymnasiums. The season is scheduled to end on February 22.

Developmental Leagues (2nd-6th Grade) - DYA Rec Basketball Developmental Leagues are designed for a fun and competitive skills development experience. Games are 5-on-5; everyone plays. All participants are expected to attend a preseason player evaluation clinic in October to support league efforts of balancing teams. Participants not evaluated may have teammate/coach requests not considered when teams are formed.

2nd/3rd Grade Boys & Girls Leagues: Teams are scheduled for 15 practices and 10 games. Weekly 1-hour practices are held on weeknights beginning the week of October 21. Practice night (Monday-Friday) and time (6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM) may vary from week to week. Games are played on Saturday mornings or early afternoons beginning December 7. Practices/games are held at Dublin elementary school gymnasiums. The season is scheduled to end on February 22.

4th-6th Grade Boys & Girls Leagues: Teams are scheduled for 15 practices, 9 regular season games and a postseason tournament. Weekly 1-hour practices are held on weeknights beginning the week of October 21. Practice night (Monday-Friday) and time (6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM) may vary from week to week. Games are played on Saturday mornings or early afternoons beginning December 7. Practices/games are held at Dublin elementary and middle school gymnasiums. Postseason tournaments are scheduled for February 18-28.

Relaxed Competitive Leagues (7th-12th Grade) - DYA Rec Basketball Relaxed Competitive Leagues are designed for a fun, relaxed and competitive experience. Games are 5-on-5; everyone plays.

9th-12th Grade Girls League: Teams are scheduled for 9 regular season games and a postseason tournament. Every effort is made to honor teammate/coach requests. Friday evening open gyms are available for coaches by request. Games are played on Sunday afternoons or early evenings beginning December 8. Games are played at Dublin middle school and high school gymnasiums. The postseason tournament is scheduled for February 18-28.

Winter Break: No practices or games are scheduled from December 23 through January 6.

League Fees:
1st & 2nd Grade Introductory League fee is $135, plus a jersey, if you need one.
2nd-5th Grade Developmental League fee is $160, plus a jersey, if you need one.
6th-8th Grade fee is $185, plus a jersey, if you need one.
9th-12th Grade Boys fee is $150, plus a jersey, if you need one.
9th-12th Grade Girls fee is $125, plus a jersey, if you need one.

Financial assistance is available through the DYA Grant Program for families that qualify. For more information, visit the DYA Grant Program webpage.

Jersey Information: All players are required to wear the green/white DYA Basketball reversible jersey for league play. The jersey is the same as prior years and is $20 to purchase. Sizes available: Youth-Small, Youth-Medium, Youth-Large, Adult-Small, Adult-Medium, Adult-Large, Adult-XL, and Adult-XXL.

Teammate/Coach Requests: Teams are assigned by the league office. DYA will honor up to two teammate requests and a coach request per player. Teammate requests must be mutual to be considered. The intent is to help kids play with their friends while balancing competitiveness among teams. DYA reserves the right to place limits on requests if the rules are being utilized to build teams for reasons other than stated. Be sure to include any teammate/coach requests on the registration form. To add requests after registering, click the pencil (edit button) next to the player's name on the user account page.

Volunteer Coaches Needed: Dublin Youth Athletics is a volunteer organization of parents providing sports programs for kids. If you are able and willing to serve as the head or assistant coach of your child's team, please register online by clicking "Volunteer" on your profile page at DYA.com. Coaches Corner

***Travel Basketball Tryout Registration Information:***

To register for Travel Basketball tryouts, families must register their child for Recreational Basketball. There is a question on the registration form that asks, "Are you trying out for DYA Travel Basketball?" Answer "Yes" and complete the registration and you'll be registered for Travel Basketball tryouts. This process prevents the child from being wait-listed in the event they do not make a Travel team.
If your child does make the travel team: We will transfer the Recreational Basketball fee and put it towards the Travel Basketball fee.
If your child does NOT make the travel team: Your child can remain in the Recreational Basketball League or request for a refund.

Basketball Officials & Scorekeepers:
1st-2nd Grade Introductory League games are officiated by coaches.
2nd-5th Grade Developmental League games are officiated by youth officials.
6th-12th Grade League games are officiated by adult/licensed officials.
DYA employs Youth Scorekeepers to operate the scoreboard.

Team Notification: Families will be notified of their team placement, roster, and schedule following the preseason coaches' meetings. See below for coaches' meeting dates.

For all 1st-6th Grade Leagues, a coaching clinic is held as part of the preseason meeting. Attendance is required for all 1st-6th grade coaches.

2nd-8th Grade Boys & 2nd-12th Grade Girls Developmental & Competitive Leagues: 28.5'' basketball (women's size)
9th-12th Grade Boys Leagues: 29.5'' basketball (men's size)

Basket height:
1st & 2nd Grade Boys & Girls Introductory Leagues: 8 feet
2nd/3rd Grade Girls Developmental League: 9 feet
All other leagues: 10 feet

Picture Day: To Be Determined

Medals/Trophies:
1st-3rd Grade: Participation medals are awarded to all players at the end of the season.
4th-12th Grade: Trophies or medals are awarded to players on all postseason tournament champion & runner-up teams.

Tournament Information (4th-12th grade): Postseason league tournaments are scheduled to be held February 18-28. Tournament brackets will be set the week of February 10. All teams should plan to play in the Opening Round of the tournament. Teams will keep playing an additional 1-2 games after the Opening Round if they continue to win games in the tournament.

Do you reside outside of DYA boundaries?: This program is open to all families residing within the boundaries of the Dublin City School District or within the City of Dublin. Out of boundary families may participate if there is space available in the program.

DYA Basketball practices and games are held at Dublin City Schools gymnasiums. School doors will unlock 10 minutes prior to the start of practices/games. At elementary & middle schools, enter through the door numbers listed below.

All facilities have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) available in case of emergency. AEDs are portable, life-saving devices designed to treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, a medical condition in which the heart stops beating suddenly and unexpectedly.

Basketball Officials & Scorekeepers

Youth Basketball Officials & Scorekeepers:

Youth Officials (8th-12th graders) referee games in the 3rd-6th Grade Boys & 3rd-5th Grade Girls Recreational Basketball Leagues.

Youth Scorekeepers work as scoreboard operators for games in the 7th-12th Grade Boys & 6th-12th Grade Girls Recreational Basketball Leagues.
